Well, I find that the dentist and the dental hygienist and the dental assistants and the staff are all helpful and courteous. I’ve been going here for quite a long time, so some of the people I’ve known when they were little and have grown up. And then I worked with their parents, you know, at where I worked, and then I knew them as kids and then it’s, you know, it’s like, they’re like family. And that’s something I really enjoy about this place, is that they treat you like family.

And when I first started in, you know, with the dentistry that I started doing, I started 59 years ago. They give you time to look at what they’re proposing. They want your input by allowing you to set up when you do things. It’s fits your schedule and also fits their schedule, so it’s a two-way street. Dr. Leavens and his staff take care of, you know, of that, which is important to me, you know, that I can trust that what they’re gonna do is gonna be something that is for my benefit.

I love coming here because everything is…They treat you with respect. It’s gentle dentistry. And I’ve had so much work done on my mouth that…Believe me, I’ve been through all kinds of dentists before I moved to the Tri-Cities, and Dr. Leavens’ practice is probably the best I’ve ever been to. I think the professionalism, everything is done very professionally. Everybody knows their job. They do their job, makes the doctor’s job a lot easier. From the time you check in until the time you check out, it’s done very professionally. The quality of care you get here is just, I think it’s second to none. I’ve used other dentists in the Tri-Cities before I came to Dr. Leavens and he was able to fix their work, and do work on his own with the rest of the implants. And he’s very, very picky about what kind of denture he’ll put in your mouth after your implants. Dental West, you can expect friendly people, very professional people, and probably the best dental care you can get in town.

We’ve been coming for years to see Dental West, maybe not, Dr. Leavens, but since, I believe ’98, they were in a different location. But we’ve seen Dr. Leavens since he started in 2004. We’ve just always felt welcome. There’s always a smile from Alma at the front desk. Don’t have to wait long at all. And we’re in. I love it. Well, I’m very comfortable with the assistance here. All of the treatment I’ve had at Dental West has been comfortable. I’m always greeted with a smile. They’re always concerned about my comfort, and whether or not I need anything. You know, you got the massages, you got the glasses, you got the TV. So, I’m very comfortable and just let ’em know when I don’t feel comfortable, and they’re right on it. Very, very nice chairside manner from Dr. Leavens. He’s easy to talk to.

We’ve got a little bit of background. I believe he was in the military. My husband was in the military. My father was in the military, so I’ve grown up around that. So, we have a very, you know, basic commonality there. And I get along with the assistance here because we share plant love and stuff, and I’ve even brought cuttings in to some of the ladies. So, we share the love of that. But Dr. Leavens is just, he’s comfortable to be around. You know, you can ask him anything, he’ll tell you anything, but he is just a wonderful guy. You just feel very comfortable with him. The quality of care has been excellent. We’re always told what’s happening, what is going on. I ask, you know, “What are you doing now?” He’ll tell me, stop and tell me. Very concerned about me being comfortable. It’s just been excellent. I have been very comfortable here, or I don’t think we would’ve been coming since, you know, 1998. I can’t find anything wrong with this place. It’s just wonderful.

Since I’ve been seeing Dr. Leavens for my teeth anyway, he had talked about when I brought up questions like, “I have all of these tight spots in my teeth. When I floss, it’s very hard to get the floss in and out,” and so I told him that I had braces before. When my wisdom teeth came in, all of that was just kind of messed up, so he said, “Well, we’ve got the program Six Month Smiles.” So after a year I got the braces off, and I asked for a cleaning, so they cleaned my teeth and I just felt good about it, great about it, you know? I got a retainer, and we’re good to go. I loved it. So much different than when you have braces when you’re 17. Very, very comfortable the whole time. Definitely can floss easier. I’ve always had issues with my smile. I hated my smile because my teeth were weird. Then I got a fix, then they got messed up, then I got ’em fixed again, and so now, I’m very, very pleased. And I like the fact that you don’t have to go through a two-year period of time to get your teeth done, when it’s just a little simple thing that needs to be done, and it worked out really well for me. It’s so little time out of your life for you to feel comfortable again with your smile, and it was just a wonderful experience for me. I loved it. A lot of people didn’t even notice I had braces ’til I opened my mouth and smiled real big, and said, “See?”

With my implant, I know I needed it. I knew I needed it because I had a lot of swelling down in here and I just thought maybe I had problems with my gums. So I came in and Dr. Leavens looked at it and he said, “Well, you’ve got the root broken all the way down in your tooth.” I laugh about it, and he had a hard time getting that tooth out to get my new implant all going as it needed to be in the process.

And so I felt no pain. It was really funny afterwards, and he said it was curved under there and I really had a hard time getting it out, but I would never have known it was that difficult. I’m very happy with it. I think I’ve had it now for about a month and it’s very comfortable, it feels like my real tooth, no problem with it at all. I’m very happy with my dental implants. All of my teeth that I’ve had worked on feel very comfortable and I know if I have an issue, I’ll just call up and say, “This is what’s going on,” and they’ll work me in and I can get it looked at. So I’m comfortable knowing that I’m taken care of.

Well, I came here first because I needed a dentist to have my teeth cleaned and taken care of. But the things that were bothering me is I had had some crowns done previously and my bite was all wrong and it was causing problems and I didn’t like the way it looked. And so I brought my concerns to Dr. Leavens and we went from there.

They did not pressure me to go forward with the work and they just let me take my time, which actually extended over a number of years.

The journey went very smoothly, and you can always come back to Dr. Leavens and say, “Hey, I need a little adjustment here.” They’re very happy to do it. I’m thrilled with the quality of the work and how it went. My regret is I didn’t do it sooner. I would say that you can trust Dr. Leavens and his practice, and this is a great place to start. You will not be disappointed with the results.

So, some of the things I really didn’t like about my smile is probably the same thing a lot of people have as they’re coming into the dentist’s office. Ever since I was a kid, I was just very self-conscious about my smile. I didn’t like the way my teeth had grown in and the shape of them and the crookedness of them. You know, I went through childhood and as an adult I actually had braces twice, and I still wanted to have a better smile.

So, Dr. Leavens gave me the opportunity to have that better smile as I’m here with him. The process was really pretty easy, communicating with Dr. Leavens is an easy thing as well. He’s easy to talk to and I think that’s everybody that works here, we communicate very well. So, we actually just took the opportunity, and we started talking about it and it just kind of flowed from there. Everything went really smooth, we went to a training course where he needed somebody to work on. He came straight to me he said, “I have this course I wanna do, I wanna take you and I think this is gonna be the great opportunity for you to get that smile that you’ve been looking for.”

I’m very happy with my smile. I get compliments on it all the time. It’s so bright and it’s white and you know, and it’s really easy to talk to our patients saying, “Hey, I have had this done, I know exactly what you’re going through. Here is my experience, what can I help you, how can I help you go through this procedure that I have had done and make you more comfortable?”

Tried dentures without implants and just was a very bad experience. Figured implants was the way to go, and Dr. Leavens was able to do it timely, and he’s very, very picky, and he went back to the lab, I don’t know, three or four times before he got it the way he wanted. I wasn’t able to chew properly, I wasn’t able to eat the foods I wanted. The original denture I had on the lower, I was eating a piece of bacon and it broke. So, that’s why I ended up here.

Life changed, I can eat what I want. I can eat an apple, I can eat any steak I want, so it’s made a big change in my life. If I could go back and tell myself, I would have told myself to get here sooner. Your quality of life changes so much after you get a good, proper, fitting set of dentures. It’s life-changing.
